Serving on a GO Team
"Go therefore and make disciples of all the nations, baptizing them in the name of the Father and the Son and the Holy Spirit, teaching them to observe all that I commanded you; and I am with you always, even to the end of the age.” Matthew 28:19-20"
Chapel Hill sees short-term mission trips as a crucial part of developing a mission-minded congregation. We call our teams GO (Global Outreach) Teams and take Matthew 28:19-20 as our theme. In these verses God tells us to go and to teach, and He says that He will be with us.
- GO—God first calls us to GO. He may not tell us right away where or when, but He definitely tells us to GO.
- TEACHING—We believe that everyone has something to teach others, though often not in the formal sense of the word “teach.” No matter what a GO team does while they are in the field, they are always teaching by example. In addition, those whom they encounter also teach. Teams often return feeling that they have received much more than they have given. Participating on a GO team is a tender balance of opening your hands to offer all that you have.
- WITH YOU—Traveling, crossing unknown borders, and encountering strangers in today’s world can be frightening. But we believe that God holds each of our GO teams in His hand. Teams are prayed for diligently by our Chapel Hill family. They keep in contact with the Missions staff as much as possible throughout their journey. Though we cannot guarantee that illness, lost baggage, or stolen cameras will not be a part of a GO team’s experience, we are certain that God is in control of each and every moment.
